ABOUT US

The Power of Community

Long Island Laboring Against COVID-19, or LILAC, is an award-winning student-run charitable organization committed to providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and moral support to all those affected by the pandemic. LILAC's mission is to serve the underserved and underprivileged populations in communities that have been severely impacted by COVID-19. LILAC is the COVID-19 relief branch of its parent organization, Girl Pride International, a global 501c3 girls empowerment organization based on New York, USA.

What began with critical support for medical professionals and first responders who are fighting for us, evolved into direct outreach to high-risk communities such as seniors, veterans, the homeless and disabled, schools, and with special attention being given to the disproportionately affected BIPOC communities locally and beyond. LILAC is also committed to combatting racism and hate, and has been invited to speak in Anti-Hate roundtables hosted by state and local officials.

Through the help of our members, donors, and the gracious partnership of dozens of political, business, community, and cultural leaders, LILAC and Girl Pride International have been able to serve tens of thousands of socioeconomically disadvantaged Blacks and POC populations with lifesaving PPE, meals, and funds for other basic necessities during these trying times, locally and beyond. And, through it all, we have brought local cultural stakeholders together to show unity and solidarity.

Unfortunately, many workers are under increasingly dire circumstances due to severe shortages in medical masks, ventilators, intensive care units, and other essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). That’s where we come in! We created a GoFundMe page to raise money for medical supplies for these healthcare workers and show our solidarity to all those affected by the virus.

Stand with us, and them, by donating to this cause and sharing this page with someone you know! Any amount helps, and 100% of the proceeds will either go directly to the hospitals or towards purchasing and manufacturing PPE to help our community stay strong!
